Job Posting: Museum of the Aleutians
Curator/ Registrar

The Museum of the Aleutians seeks a creative and energetic professional
to manage collections and assist with exhibit programs. Located in
Alaska's magnificent Aleutian Islands, the city of Unalaska numbers
4,500 and is located 800 miles southwest of Anchorage.  The Aleutian
Islands comprise 1,200 miles of spectacular coastal wilderness, along
with an unusually rich and diverse human history. The Museum opened in
1999, as a new facility with permanent and changing galleries,
laboratories, and collection storage with museum standard environmental
controls. Collections number 400,000, with archaeological, historic, art
related, and archival materials. Current Curator is in place until
August, 2002, new hire can ideally begin by July 2002. The successful
candidate will have at least 4 years prior experience in collection
management and exhibits, along with excellent communication skills.
Familiarity with Alaskan material culture and/or history a plus.  This
position reports to the Director. A job description is available on our
