Which is why I'm not asking for a consultant or a professional but for a
volunteer to help us get started, who can either be a professional or just
someone who has had experience with writing grants. Ship's Company is an
all-volunteer group and if we had the money to pay a professional, believe me
we would. (Hence the need for grants. :)

As a part-time consultant, I believe that we all deserve to be reimbursed for
our work. But let's face it, there are many good organizations out there that
simply do not have the income to pay for all the professional work that they
need. If professionals didn't donate their time to orgs that couldn't afford to
pay, then many of these orgs as well as many paid museum/non-profit industry
positions would not exist today. This is not a whine but a simple fact of the
field that we are in. It's also a gripe of mine against the inevitable volley
of responses like the one above to requests for volunteer help.

This list exists for people in the museum community to share information and
help each other. If we can't ask for help without getting attacked that we
should be paying the people who offer to help us then we're hurting us all.

Sorry for sermonizing but it's a pet peeve of mine.

Deb
