Museum Fellowships

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, the State Art Museum of Florida;;
now affiliated with Florida State University

Christ-Janer Fellow

Named in honor of one of Sarasota's most important visionaries in the arts, Arland Christ-Janer, this 12-month post-graduate fellowship is for a recent recipient of a master's degree or Ph.D. to begin a career in museums. The fellow will work as a special assistant to the museum director, taking on designated long-term projects as well as assisting with daily operations of the executive office. The experience gained through this fellowship should serve as a foundation for a professional career.

Curatorial Fellow

This 12-month fellowship would serve a recent graduate of a master's or Ph.D. program to begin a curatorial career. The fellow will work as special assistant to the chief curator, working on art historical projects and exhibitions, as well as managing some day-to-day affairs of the curatorial office such as correspondence, clerical duties, etc. The fellowship should offer the experience necessary to begin a successful career as a museum curator. Excellent writing skills, organizational aptitude, and ability to work cooperatively with others required. Expected starting date: autumn 2002.
