I'm sensing some need to smooth a few feathers and add
a word of support to some of our colleagues in light
of the recent additions I have created.

In no way are the new lists intended to be in
competition with, in place of, or as a challenge to
any of the wonderful works, also provided out of
goodwill by a number of our colleagues here. They
have no commercial/resale purpose, and are being done
as a hobby to try to put some sorely needed
organization in place for the differing needs that
became evident when I realized this list is 2500 in
number.

As I've oft said, many times, Roger provides a
valuable service with his Global Museum, and, if
you've not seen it, you may wish to ask him for a
copy.

Both Roger and Roy Hemmat (http://www.museumstuff.com
) do a great job of providing insights as to what is
happening in the museums community at large, and their
resources are invaluable tools. The four MuseNews
sources are not intended to compete with those
sources, but rather to provide a supplemental source
from which one can draw. They are, as a reminder:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MuseNews-Art
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MuseNews-General
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MuseNews-History
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MuseNews-Science

Both Roger and Jim Roberts of the UK have excellent
employment resources, and Jim is a most gracious
contributor among the 110 members of
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MuseJobs

In addition to simply providing you sources for jobs,
I try to supplement with skill sets one might need to
be successful in the interviewing process. Knowing
where the jobs are is one thing. Knowing how to get a
job is quite another, so I supplement with HotJobs.com
newsletters and other resources.

You will probably see redunandcies on all three
resources and on Aaron Marcavich's most delightful
Publicistoryjobs list
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/publichistoryjobs These
redundancies are not a bad thing. What you need is
plenty of sources targeted at you the job seeker, for
which there are more seekers, regrettably than there
are jobs.

MuseDocs was not created to compete with Roger. Truth
be known, though I've been a subscriber of Rogers for
many years, I didn't know he even offered this
service. That may be a byproduct of being
inattentive, but I do read most everything posted here
and don't remember it being mentioned in a while. It's
wonderful, and I do cross post Roger's info for the
benefit of the whole.

Nonetheless, we all process information in different
fashion. Rather than one, long newsletter, I do
better with bytes of data. So I will continue to keep
MuseDocs in place for those who want a ready
reference. This is no way negates what Roger offers.
He provides a very wonderful service and deserves much
credit for his dedication.

There are others of you who also provide great service
to this community. My faltering memory is the only
thing keeping me from calling you out by name, but
know that your work is much appreciated.

Just as people learn differently, they process info
differently. Having multiple resources serves the
community at large and ensures we are a more unified
and informed team.

I hope your feathers are smooth and that we are all
now enjoying the Olympics.
