Hi,

You might also try the National Park Service.  I've seen (and applied for,
but without luck) one job that involved being in the field as a collections
manager.  Basically the person was there to aid in the transistion of the
materials from surveys and excavations from the field through lab analysis
and into the museum's collection management system.  If you've ever been on
the museum side when a collection is taken in from the archeaologists, you
know how much this kind of position is needed.  I'm not sure how much the
NPS does this, but they also have plenty of archaeologists, who probably
work more closely with the museum staff than in many other settings.
