Hello, new to the list and did my MA studies at Wright State University in
Dayton, Ohio.
This won't help those already studying in Great Britain, but when I was
finished university, I took part in a program administered by the British
Universities North America Club (BUNAC) and was able to work in Great
Britain for up to six months. This will get your foot in the door, and you
may be able to convince your employer to extend your visa if you are
involved in a long-term project. Details on the BUNAC program are at
http://www.bunac.com .They also have programs for Canadians to work in the
U.S. and the U.K., and also for those living in the UK to work in the U.S.
and Canada.

> Greetings. I did my MA studies at the University of Manchester's Art
Gallery & Museum Studies Course. As an American, I did inquire as to work
visas, etc., before being bluntly told by the home office that as I was
there as a student, I could not work. I would have liked to have stayed in
the UK to do some museum work, but was generally told that anyone from the
UK, EU, Australia, or Canada would be given priority over any applications I
might make to work in the UK museums. I think the best bet would be to go
through something like the summer residence offered by Leicester University,
and then try to get other similar positions afterwards.

> For example, I know of an Australian who did the same course as I did, and
managed to obtain permanent residency in the UK by going through practically
every type of visa she could until she had been living and working in the UK
for 7 years, and was therefore eligible for the permanent status.
>
> As for myself, I did manage to find work in a museum in the United States,
so the story ends well. Best of luck to you.
