If you do, then you should know about a number of other resources that can
provide support!
First, the American Association of Museums has a Small Museum Administrators
Committee that is part of their Council of Standing Professional Committees.
SMAC sponsors sessions at the AAM Annual Meeting and publishes a newsletter.
It also serves as the national advocate for small museums (and their
distinctive needs) within the museum profession. For more information you
can contact me (see below).
There is also a Small Museum Association based in Maryland with membership
primarily in the Mid-Atlantic area. They hold a two-day annual conference
in February and have a message board at

The Midwest Museums Association has a Small Museum Administrators Committee
(contact the MMC Executive Director David Tanner at [log in to unmask]
for more information) as does the Mountain-Plains Museum Association
(contact MPMA SMAC chair Robert Brown, Executive Director of the Museums at
Fort Missoula, at [log in to unmask] for more information).
The AAM SMAC annual meeting will be in Dallas during the AAM annual meeting
on Tuesday, May 14 at 12 noon (see the AAM Annual Meeting program on how to
register).
