A group of British-based art-lovers are celebrating preventing
Italian experts restoring a fragile unfinished painting by Leonardo
da Vinci.

Curators at the Uffizi gallery in Florence have abandoned
controversial
plans to reconstruct The Adoration of the Magi after laboratory tests
showed the work was not necessary to save it.

Their decision follows legal threats and campaigning by ArtWatch UK,
which
feared the very act of restoration could destroy the incomplete
masterpiece.
