After watching all the ballyhoo about language here on
list--to contract or not to contract (hey, I've been
through contractions, and I can verify they're no
fun--wink) and whether Australianese, USAese, or
Britishese is the best form of English, I couldn't
resist offering this report from the United States of
America's General Accounting Office (GAO):
1. Foreign Languages:: Workforce Planning Could Help
Address Staffing
and Proficiency Shortfalls, by Susan S. Westin,
managing director,
international affairs and trade, before the
Subcommittee on International
Security, Proliferation, and Federal Services, Senate
Committee on
Governmental Affairs. GAO-02-514T, March 12.
