Although I do not have experience integrating GIS with museums, I am one of the biggest proponents
of doing such a thing.  Local museums could be using it to track where artifacts came from and be
able to generate maps for vistors on demand.  The capabilities of GIS in a museum (& preservation,
et. al.) are astounding.  I can't wait to start into a geography program and begin working with
it.
