Greetings all!

Some of you may remember my name from a few years back. I have just
returned to the Canadian Museum of Civilization after a 20 month absence
following the birth of my twin sons. In need of a vacation and the
opportunity to finish a cup of coffee, I have returned to work. I already
have more questions than answers!

As is the case with many museums these days, we in collections find our
roles have changed dramatically. Partially due to financial reasons and
partially due to increased public demands on our information resources we
find our work has become computer intensive - adopting and implementing a
new database, promoting our collection and its associated resources on the
Internet, creating standards, bilingualizing information for public
consumption all make up our workday schedule. Cataloguing has, for the most
part, become a curatorial responsibility. Because of that, we are trying to
create a template for our researchers to use so that we can collect data at
the point of acquisition. Does anyone have a successful model they would be
willing to share with us? If so, please contact me off the list.

Also ... Prior to my departure, I had generated a bit of dialogue concerning
a new position the museum was considering. The position concerned the
multimedia component of our database. The person would be responsible for
managing artifact specific images and associated sound and video. We have
resolved the question at our end and I am now Multimedia Documentalist for
the artifact collection (as opposed to our Library/Archives). Anyone
interested in the job description can contact me off the list.

Thanks in advance for your consideration to the above mentioned question.

Yours Sincerely,
Patricia Davis-Perkins
