I am not using Filemaker for collections management, but I am using
it as we develop a multimedia database.

I will address point number 3 first.  Serving Filemaker on the Web is
fairly easy with the current versions.  Be aware that starting with
version 5.0, there is something called Filemaker Unlimited.  The
standard version allows 10 unique IPs to connect daily.  Unlimited
allows for unlimited web connections daily.  Budget accordingly.
Unlimited is NOT cheap.

Now, addressing question 1.  I get around the file size limitation by
using URL encodings to access images and quicktime movies.  This way,
the images do not have to live in the database, which is a good thing.

Doing relationships in Filemaker is fairly easy with autonumbering
serial numbers.

The more you can do via the web for access and data input, the better
off you are.
