DIRECTOR OF THE BRADBURY GALLERY
College of Fine Arts
Arkansas State University

The College of Fine Arts is seeking a director to provide dynamic leadership
for its Bradbury Gallery. This distinctive and highly visible position
collaborates with artists, scholars, faculty, students and community. The
director is responsible for shaping the gallery1s focus and administrating
the gallery1s programs within the college, university and region.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts, this is a 12-month
faculty appointment with teaching assignments in the Department of Art;
responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

ˇ        General and routine planning and oversight responsibilities,
ˇ        Develop and conserve the University's permanent art collection and
maintain the collection's records and database,
ˇ        Supervise all aspects of exhibition installation and Provide hands
on supervision of all aspects of exhibition installation, equipment, and
supplies,
ˇ        Provide leadership to insure that the gallery will enhance the
visibility and reputation of the College and the University,
ˇ        Prepare reports, grant applications and proposals,
ˇ        Serve on committees which directly or indirectly influence the
gallery, and
ˇ        Fulfill teaching responsibilities subsequent to conversation with
the dean and chair of the art department.

QUALIFICATIONS: Gallery/Museum administrative experience at the university
or professional level, and an appropriate terminal degree or equivalency are
required. The successful candidate will present evidence of leadership
ability and goals attainment. Excellent oral and written communication and
interpersonal relation skills are essential. Preference given to candidates
with demonstrated vision, success as a resource seeker and fund raiser, and
success in establishing and maintaining working relationships with the
profession.

Preferred Starting Date is July 1, 2002. Position is dependent upon
availability of state funding. Application review will begin on January 10,
2002 and will continue until the position is filled. Salary is based on
experience and qualifications.

The BRADBURY GALLERY, located in the Fowler Center, has a mission that is
targeted toward the growth and understanding of contemporary art through the
exhibition of challenging and stimulating art and design. The 5,500 square
foot gallery is home to the Delta National Small Print Exhibition and to the
university1s permanent collection of art.

The Gallery exhibition areas enable simultaneous exhibitions. The gallery
reaches audiences that include the College of Fine Arts, the university
community and the people who live and work in the Jonesboro metropolitan
area and region. In addition, national and international audiences result
from catalog publications and traveling exhibitions.

The COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS provides nationally recognized innovative
education, performances and programming in the visual and performing arts.
The largest college of fine arts in the state, it comprises the Departments
of Art, Music and Theatre, and the Fowler Center. Each department has its
own distinctive program, yet they share important common goals: to make
students more aware of our intellectual and artistic heritage, to enhance
abilities to think critically, to improve skills of effective communication,
and to develop the potential of the artistically talented.

The College of Fine Arts offers intensive performance, technical, and studio
training, studies in history and theory, and certified teacher preparation.
Students can major or minor in each department and there are courses
specifically designed for the non major. In addition, the college also
sponsors exhibitions, plays, concerts and recitals for the benefit of the
entire campus and community.
