VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR: The Homestead Museum, a six-acre
historic site in eastern Los Angeles County, seeks a
Volunteer Coordinator to direct all aspects of its
volunteer program including planning, administration, and
evaluation. Specific responsibilities include, but are
not limited to: coordinating the recruitment, selection,
training, and rewarding of volunteers (docents,
administrative volunteers, collections volunteers);
maintaining volunteer files; writing for and editing
staff newsletter; scheduling paid and volunteers staff
members for tours and events; scheduling school and group
tours; maintaining visitor attendance records; and
proposing and maintaining volunteer program budget.
Other duties include serving on and facilitating teams;
assisting with tours and events as needed; providing
reception backup as needed; and supervising the site on
selected weekend days and holidays.
The Volunteer Coordinator reports directly to the
Director, has exempt status, and works full time (40
hours per week, including one weekend day).
Minimum requirements: BA in museum studies, arts
management, history, or equivalent; two years volunteer
management experience; excellent writing, speaking,
interpersonal, and organizational skills; and computer
literacy. Preference given to candidates with three to
five years of volunteer management experience; an
understanding of generally accepted museum standards,
strategies, and ethics; graphic design experience; and
Spanish or Chinese fluency.
