Descansando Para La Jornada: Resting for the Journey
The 2002 Western Museums Association conference theme is a metaphor for our

professional growth, restoration and rejuvenation. As museum professionals we
are constantly challenged to renew and inspire our visitors but we often
 neglect
opportunities to do this for ourselves.
Our profession leads us on paths of discovery as we work to apply new
technology to our exhibits, educational programs and collections. Our work is
 a
continuous journey of challenge and change. Can we succeed in our endeavors
without recognizing that we too require renewal and moments of descansando?
The 2002 Annual Conference will focus on reflecting on our field and
restoring our professional development; Resting for the Journey, Descansado
 Para
La Jornada. Session proposals may address a variety of topics, but the
 selection
committee will be interested in those that reflect on and explore restoration
and rejuvenation—in our professional careers and in our programs and
institutions. What kinds of changes should we be preparing for? How can we
support our professional growth and development? What can we learn from our
 past
 experiences?
The conference will be held at the Westin La Paloma, a secluded resort
located at the foothills of Tucson’s beautiful Catalina Mountains. Slow
 down
long enough to experience the subtle changes of the sky, land and animal life
 as
the Tucson desert transforms from summer to fall. We invite you to prepare to
rest amid the diverse cultures that reside in the Old Pueblo.
