Lisa,
If the collection you are moving hasn't had a recent inventory and you have the time, by all means do so. Your plan of of labeling boxes / shelves with corresponding information should do just fine. Tags with the same approach for the larger objects will also work. What about object
location? That was where we ran into some problems. While we were unpacking the boxes we became aware that we were going to have to add more shelves to accommodate the collections in some areas. This, after the shelves had already been numbered in sequence. Which means we were
looking at changing the location designation on quite a few already shelved objects. If you can find a way of this not happening to you it will save you a lot of grief!!
You've got a good plan. If the majority of the boxed collections stay in boxes, your space is adequate and your handlers already know what they are doing, your looking good.
One more thing to consider. As you stated, the objects in boxes will stay in boxed. For how long? Will they need to be unboxed in the future for access? If so, should you consider now how much room they will occupy and place the boxes accordingly? Just a thought.
Good luck on your new job. ( Hope you're making a living wage at it !! )
