Above all keep as simple as possible and buy readily available
brands like Halo or Juno. This is from 25 years of working with a
wide variety of brands and complexities unimaginable. I have seen
entire systems abandoned because the lamps were extremely expensive,
had a  very short life and were difficult to replace. The fixtures
will eventually  need to be replaced and you want to be able to do
that without having to find a manufacturer that may be in another
country or out of business. Find a reputable  museum lighting
designer and insist on the simplicity but not to the exclusion of
flexibility. The more complex the harder it is for a newcomer without
training to step in and have a well lit show. Have your preparator/s
work with the designer to learn what is possible and what isn't and
if there is a lighting design workshop available have them attend.
