It looks like there's lots of interest in the subject of board committees.
The Museum Trustee Association has just introduced a new series, "Templates
for Trustees." The first template, "Building Museum Boards," lists the
following committees: Executive, Governance, Collections, Building and
Grounds, Development, Audit, Finance, Education, Exhibitions, Human
Resources, Marketing/PR. Building Museum Boards includes a workbook and a
diskette with 9 templates that are designed to be tailored to the needs and
resources of individual museums. One, the Board Life Cycle, charts the length
of service of individual board committees as well as the board as a whole.
The template also includes a board contract, a list of board job descriptions
and 6 other tools that help identify board needs, recruit new members to fill
those needs and orient them to start serving effectively. It's applicable to
museums of all sizes and stages in their institutional life cycle. The cost
is $50 for MTA members, $60 for AAM members and $75 for nonmembers. For
