Let me clear up a few things concerning the helmet in question. I have
no desire to bring it back to an as new state. However, before coming
to the museum it was badly stored. In fact we have found evidence of a
dirt dauber nest inside the lining. It is this sort of thing I want to
be able to remove without harming the object.
