Dear Jamie,

Our statewide educational resources has numerous resources from discovery
kits to videos. If the teacher visits our website (www.vmfa.state.va.us
<http://www.vmfa.state.va.us> ) and selects statewide partners, he/she wil
access to a complete listing, as well as borrowing information.
Thanks

        Subject: classroom assistance

        Greetings,

A special education teacher from an elementary school in the
Virginia Beach
area recently contacted our organization asking if we could donate
items
that could be used towards putting together a "discovery kit" or
"teaching
trunk." Unfortunately, we are primarily a research organization and
do not
have teaching kits to donate or lend out. Would any of you know of
any
institutions (especially in the Virginia Beach area) that would be
willing
to donate such kits? I know this might be an impossible question to
ask, as
many are only willing to lend such items for a fee. However, I
thought I'd
still try and pose the question. I did do a cursory search on the
web for
organizations in Virginia that would provide teaching kits, but I
had no
        real luck.

Unfortunately, the gentleman wasn't specific about the sorts of
objects he
was looking for. Rather, he writes his classroom is "a very visual
and
tactile place, where we try to make learning a discovery. One of the
hardest
subjects for my guys to visualize is history. I believe that small
artifacts might be one of the ways they can visualize the past." It
appears
that his interests are on the general history and prehistory of the
U.S. I
apologize in advance for this request being so broad, but if you
have any
leads I'd certainly appreciate it so I could pass them onto him.

        Thanks,

        Jamie Kelly
