Position Summary:
The Museum Registrar is a staff position within the Collections Division of
the Arizona State Museum. This staff person is responsible for the
registration and processing of new collections and loans, for proper
maintenance of all official collections records, and for the preparation of
collections reports for state agencies as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Registers all new collections coming into the Museum, obtains values,
completes condition assessments, and ensures that all relevant documents are
obtained and filed in collections permanent files.
* Updates University insurance, property records, and Awards/Gifts Division
records. Files University loss reports and insurance claims for collections.
* Assigns accession numbers for all incoming collections. Assigns catalog
numbers to and is responsible for numbering of non-repository objects.
* Transfers new collections to the care of appropriate curatorial staff for
cataloging and storage. Ensures that accession information is available and
is properly filed.
* Prepares and registers loan agreements for all Museum divisions, executes
insurance arrangements, and assures that all relevant documents are obtained
and filed.
* Ensures proper packing, handling and shipping of loans. Arranges all legal
documents required for sending/receiving objects outside the continental
United States.
* Ensures security of all collections records, including proper storage,
duplication and use of proper materials. Maintains and supervises access to
registration documents file.
* Maintains computer registration files and produces reports as needed.
* Coordinates recruitment and placement of work study and other student
employees and volunteers in the Collections Division.
* Supervises assigned personnel and volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications:
* Master's degree in Anthropology, Art History, Museum Studies or related
field AND one year of museum registration experience; OR,
* Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Art History, Museum Studies or related
field AND two years of museum registration experience; OR,
* Six years of museum registration experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Knowledge of and experience in museum computer applications including
database manipulation (especially Access), spreadsheets, word processing,
and manipulation of digital images.
* Familiarity with pertinent state, federal and international statutes
concerning museum objects (e.g. NAGPRA, burial laws, protected or endangered
species, customs regulations, etc.).
* Knowledge of and experience in arranging insurance, valuation, and fine
arts shipping of museum collections.
* Excellent communication and project management skills.
* Experience in Southwestern archaeology and/or ethnology.
