In the middle of the Museum-L discussion of exhibition copyrights and the challenges for a small museum to mount an exhibition, I am reminded of something a friend recently told me. I was talking about an "exhibit" at our small museum and my friend, who is currently studying at the NY Museum of Folk Art, corrected me by saying that her instructor (or the director or something) told her that an "exhibit" is like an artifact that you "exhibit" in a court of law, but what I was talking about is an "exhibition"...not an "exhibit".
I see everyone on the list interchanging the two terms, as I did...and still do very frequently. What is correct?
Lynne
