Curatorial & Research Assistant - Botany.

The Academy of Natural Sciences is seeking a full-time Curatorial & Research
Assistant for the Botany Department.    The Academy's Herbarium contains
nearly two million specimens, including some of the most historically
important type specimens from North America and the world.   The Botany
department is staffed by two full-time curators, a full-time collection
manager, two interns and numerous volunteers.  The Curatorial and Research
Assistant will report to the department chair, Dr. Lucinda McDade, Associate
Curator of Botany.

The Curatorial Assistant is responsible for day to day supporting activities
of curatorial and research projects in herbarium and laboratory situations.
Duties: 1. Perform technical tasks in herbarium and laboratory for curator's
research program in systematics, evolutionary biology and collection based
research. 2. Carry out herbarium and laboratory research, make appropriate
observations and maintain neat, organized detailed records of procedures and
data. 3. Procure equipment and supplies under supervision of curator.
Maintain equipment in good working order and operate in safe manner. 4.
Assist in analysis of data, including library
research, data entry, preparation of data charts and carrying out
statistical analyzes 5. Specific projects as assigned.

Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in biology; experience may be
adequate substitute. Qualifications: Two years experience working in field
or laboratory or both, depending on position; some knowledge of plants is
preferred. Familiarity with computers, statistical and graphics programs
desired. Good organizational skills and attention to details; ability to
work  independently.
