Jay,

Thank you for clarifying a visitors charter for me (seriously).  That's not
at all the way I was understanding it.  I was getting the impression it was
another visitors bill of rights.  The last two museums where I have worked
have done exactly as you described in their museum policies (along with how
to deal with a bomb threat over the telephone), though they didn't call it a
visitors charter.  Actually both are small museums where the line of fire
between 'front end' people and the curator and/or director is very short.
The bullet hits both bodies, sometimes all three.  However, to be honest, I
doubt we have to deal with the heated criticism a larger museum may have at
times.

Still, the way it was discussed earlier it seemed to me like legislating how
to comply with existing legislation.  And, I still feel people take report
writing, etc. far too seriously these days. And, I feel it's a little harsh
to insinuate that if a museum doesn't formally write it down, they don't
take visitors services seriously.
