Hi everybody,

I've bent your collective ear a couple of times over the last few months on
the 1st person interpretive program I'm planning and you've been most
helpful. This is the last time - I promise.

Can an organization limit an interpreter hired on staff or hired on
contract from taking a character on the road in the future for her/his own
use? Say, a contract interpreter prepares a program with your assistance
and materials on a real 19th-c. character specific to the site for a farm
museum. Can you assert any kind of intellectual control over that
character's future by providing that the organization receive a royalty in
the contract? If the interpreter later used "19th century farmer" as a
character, I guess it'd be a different situation altogether. Do you see any
pitfalls in my line of thought? I guess we don't have any problem if our
real life character is later used for educational purposes, we'd just like
to ensure a measure of protection that he isn't used later in a less-than
educational arena. What do you think?

Thanks so much, - Bethany Rutledge
