Perhaps at least colleges and universities should tack on a fee that
automatically goes into a replacement book fund, and the school have a
graduation requirement (during the first semester the student attends)
of reading a document and signing a contract that expressly states what
a student can and cannot do in the library and to materials, and the
consequences, i.e., lack of evidence to support one's research paper.
It would be nice if these students had this training in high school, for
that matter, make this contract required before entry into the
institution. It isn't meant as "punishment before the crime," it is
simply teaching responsibility where there might not have been before.
