Hardly think Washington was half nude. "In the Roman tradition of honoring
the accomplishments of aging men in portrait busts. The toga gracefully
draped over Washington's shoulders conjures up images of venerable Greek
nobles or Roman senators and raises the sculpture into the realm of
idealism." Was a portrait bust after Houdon. The date was 1853. Was Hiram
Powers. See http://www.artsmia.org/art_in_america/8_1.html
