CALL FOR ARTICLES:

The Visitor Studies Association (VSA) is sending out a call for articles
about recently completed thesis or dissertation work in the field of
visitor studies and audience research. These articles will be published
in the Spring, 2001 issue of VSA Today!, the main publication put out by
VSA 3 times a year, read by museum administrators, college professors,
exhibit designers, researchers, evaluators, educators, and others.
Appropriate submissions include, but are not limited to, the following
areas: evaluation of visitors to a particular exhibit; parks or other
informal learning environments; leisure studies; characteristics of
visitors; looking at specific types of visitors; visitor reactions to
exhibits, programs, parks, zoos; including both qualitative and
quantitative studies.

This will be a great opportunity for graduate students to showcase and
publish their research. The formal training we as students receive is
important in providing the background and knowledge we will need to be
successful in the museum field. In turn, an issue devoted to hearing
what research students are conducting will allow us to give back to the
field of visitor studies.

Having been the Student Representative for over 2 years now, I am well
aware of the interest and support that students receive from VSA members
and the VSA Today! readership. They take a very active interest in the
work that students are doing.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal of an article from a
thesis or dissertation you have completed, or would like submission
guidelines, please contact myself or Kris Morrissey, Editor of Visitor
Studies Today!, at [log in to unmask] The deadline for proposals is
January 15, 2001, and proposals should be sent electonically via email
to Kris Morrissey at [log in to unmask] Papers should be 800-2400
words in length, including references.

For further information about the Visitor Studies Association, please
see VSA's web page at http://museum.msu.edu/vsa/index.html
