I agree with the recommendations thus far and will now add my two cents. The
Care of Antiques and Historical Collections by A. Bruce MacLeish (Nashville:
AASLH, 1985) is a good book that looks at every material an artifact could
be made of, from wood to bone. It may not provide specific dating aids, but
does provide good background information on the varied objects in a history
collection.
