********Fire Safety: For Museums, Libraries, and Archives*********

This workshop will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the
University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, MS.

Fire is one of the most feared and potentially devastating type of
disaster that threatens cultural institutions. This workshop shows you
how to survive a fire in your institution with a focus on institutional
responsibilities as outlined in OSHA and NFPA regulations and
standards. Participants will learn about different types of detection and
suppression systems, and the use of portable fire extinguishers. Topics
covered include:

* How fires begin
* What to do  during the first two minutes
* How to decide whether or not to fight the fire
* How to select the appropriate extinguisher
* Different types of detection devices and how they work
* The importance of automatic fire suppression devices

This workshop is recommended for curators, librarians, archivists,
administrators, physical plant personnel, docents, volunteers, or anyone
who works within a museum, archive or library.

Instructor is Mike Trinkley, Director of Chicora Foundation and author
of Can You Stand the Heat?

Cost is $95 ($85 early bird, $120 late registration) for Full Members;
$105 ($95 early bird, $130 late registration) for Associate Users; $135
($125 early bird, $160 late registration) for Affiliate (non-members).
Any institution in Mississippi qualifies for the member rate.
