Andie-
I don't know about the requirements for children's museum positions, but as
far as anthro. is concerned it really depends on the position you are
looking for, your familiarity with the specific region you are applying in,
and the cultural materials associated with that region. As a Liberal Arts
major, I'm guessing that you probably took a couple of courses in the anthro
department.
Most anthropology/archaeology museums look for a minimum of an anthro or
archaeology BA just to get your foot in the door, but they make make
exceptions if you have volunteer or internship experience in a specific
area, or if you can demonstrate a strong familiarity based on
self-education.
Hope this helps....

Subject: Museum Education
Hello Museum People,
I recently graduated from The University of Arizona with my degree in
Liberal
Arts. I had a short internship in the Education and Library Dept. at
Phoenix
Art Museum. So, now what? I don't want to go back to school, at least not
yet, but I want to work in an education dept. in a museum. Ultimately, I
want to be the Education Director at a Children's Museum. Right now, I would
settle for a paying museum job, preferably in an anthropological museum. I
would probably sweep the floors in a museum if I could even get that gig.
:)
Tucson, AZ is where I am but I would be willing to relocate for the right
opportunity or career stepping stone. Any words of wisdom out there?
Thank you in advance!
-Andie McNabb, BA (I am still excited about the letters behind my name)
