Museum to Expand Storage
The Alutiiq Museum and Archaeological Repository has received a $10,000
grant from the Rasmuson Foundation to improve its collections storage.
This generous gift, will be used to add addition shelving to the
museum's environmentally stable collection room, substantially
increasing storage area.
“This is an important addition” remarked Deputy Director, Amy
Steffian. “In the past six years our collections have really grown. We
have brought artifacts home from other museums, accepted donations from
community members, and collected several large archaeological
assemblages through research projects. Although we have plenty of
storage space, we are running out of shelving. This grant will insure
that we continue to provide the best facilities for our phenomenal
collection.” This increase in storage is part of the museum's larger
effort to upgrade collections care as it works towards national
accreditation.
The Alutiiq Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving
and sharing the cultural traditions of the Alutiiq, a Native Alaskan

grants and sales. The museum is located at 215 Mission Road, Suite 101
in Kodiak, Alaska. Current hours of operation are Tuesday - Friday 9-5
& Sat., 10:30 - 4:30. Telephone: 907-486-7004, Fax: 907-486-7048, Web
