We have a comprehensive program for individuals with all types of
disabilities. Much of our grant activity supports this broad set of
programs. We are also the home of the local VSA Arts affiliate. The
national VSA Arts office would be a great resource for you. They have
developed a guide on accessible cultural programs. If you have any
questions feel free to contact me on or off line.

Good Luck!

Subject: Access for the Learning and Mentally Disabled

Hello! I am attempting to create a list of museums that have programs or
other methods of making the museum accessible to visitors with learning
disabilities or mental handicaps.

I realize that any list I create will not be exhaustive, however, I hope to
be able to determine the size, type, or other similarities in museums with
these programs. This is the first step in a research project I am
completing this year as part of my studies in historic preservation at Mary
Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA.

If you are aware of a pre-existing guide to museums with programs for the
learning or mentally disabled, or your museum has such a program, please
let
me know!

Thank you for your help.
