I hate to be a pessimist but unless you marry a Brit, getting a work permit in the UK for museum work is nearly impossible. Their museum job market is just as glutted as ours and unless you have a unique skill that no one else has in the world, Home Office will never approve the work permit. Work Permits are hard to acquire in the first place esp. since the EU was formed.

I've been trying for years and I have a relatively niche skill of being a planetarium educator. I've had places that said they'd hire me if they could get a work permit and it was just too much trouble to try. You can be tied up for 6 months justifying why they need to have you and why the job can't be filled by any other person. Most of the time the place offering you a job can't even apply for a permit unless they have left the job open for several months.

I do know that some people have gotten jobs through training programs but those are only for a short period of time and the UK is very strict about kicking you out afterwards. If you have just finished school, you could do one of the work abroad programs but those only last for about 6 months or so.

If anyone else has had any more luck, please let me know.
