Hi Laura,

I am a die-hard MAC lover and that's what we have here. We too use Filemaker
Pro. Sure, it's not PastPerfect, but I think when cost (affordable is a
relative term) is involved, Filemaker is a great way to go. We are currently
cataloguing and computerizing our collection. I think one of the nicest
things about it is that it is really idiot proof. It matters little if a
volunteer has any computer skills. With only a couple of basic pieces of
info, they can easily enter data. My only complaint is that searching,
although possible, is not as simple as I would like it to be. You can
certainly do what you need to do though. We do. We also use it for
membership, mailing lists, and contribution records. If you find anything
else MAC based that's better I would love to know about it. I refuse to give
up my MAC, but more available software sure would be nice!

Also, Filemaker supports digital images which is great if you can take
digital photos of your collection. Then you just make a field in your
database for the photo and voila! We're aren't to that point yet, but I made
sure it had the ability to support it for the future.
