EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
MUSEUM PROGRAM ASSOCIATE

The New York State Council on the Arts is recruiting for the position of
Museum Program Associate (PS&T Grade 23).  The Program administers grants
to art, history, science and children's museums, to organizations that are
not museums for exhibition support and for services to the field.  The
salary range is $46,727-$57,537 commensurate with experience + $823 in
location pay.  The starting salary usually begins in the lower end of the
range.  There is a full benefits package available including life, health,
dental, vision and retirement plans.

The candidate should have a broad, general knowledge of the practices,
trends and issues facing museum professionals and their institutions.
 Candidates must have a four-year college degree or equivalent in addition
to a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in the
museum field, or an advanced degree, in art history, history, American
Studies, museum studies or allied field and a minimum of two years of
experience within the museum profession.  Priority is given to applicants
with experience working with collections or in public programming.

The position requires strong administrative skills.  Candidates should be
prepared to demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills,
both written and verbal, with attention to detail.  Sensitivity to a
variety of aesthetics and ability to work well with people are essential.
 Candidates should be available and willing to travel around the state to
meet with applicants and attend arts activities.  A valid driver's license
is useful.  Candidates must be computer proficient in word processing,
database programs and on-line communications.

The primary responsibilities of the Museum Program Associate include
analyzing and evaluating the program and fiscal competency of applicant
organizations; preparing written evaluations of applications for panel and
Council review; preparation of statistical analyses and memoranda on
program activity; providing technical assistance; assisting the Program
Director in convening meetings and implementing special projects; attending
exhibitions and public programs of applicants; participating in agency-wide
and interagency committees; providing information to the field related to
Council policy procedures.  The position is under the supervision of the
Museum Program Director.
