Museum educators must have a strong back ground in object-based teaching,
site and program interpretation. Know how to relate museum collections
with school curriculums in order to develop appropriate education
objectives. Required skills include, research abilities, writing
skills, interpersonal and organizational skills and know how to be a team
player. You also need to be able to train docents (volunteer and paid),
improve existing educational programs, design and create interactive
programs with the goal to help visitors of diverse backgrounds, learning
styles and ages to understand the collection. Also, a desire to build
relationships with the schools and teachers, in order to evaluate and stay
in touch with currect educational strategies. You also need to have
enthusiasm and love for the job because most museum ed jobs are not highly
paid positions.

Also, in small museums your position is not just doing educational duties,
but additional work to help with the day to day functions of the museum.
