The 2001 Conservation Assessment Program (CAP) applications were mailed Friday,
October 6, 2000. Application forms are also now available on Heritage
Preservation's Web site at www.heritagepreservation.org. CAP applications will be
accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the postmark deadline of December 1,
2000.

CAP is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and
administered by Heritage Preservation. This non-competitive, one-time grant is
designed to provide small museums with the expertise of conservation professionals.
The grant funds and a minimal match by the museum cover the costs for a general
conservation assessment of collections, environmental conditions, and sites.

CAP assessors spend two days on-site and three days writing a report
identifying the museum's conservation priorities. The professional advice shared during
the site visit and in the assessment reports can form the basis for improved
collections care, long-range planning, and fund-raising for conservation and
preservation.

To receive a copy of the application contact Kelsey Scouten at Heritage
Preservation at 202-634-0031, [log in to unmask], or Heritage
Preservation, 1730 K Street NW, Ste. 566, Washington, DC 20006-3836.
