We are a mid-sized art museum and have been able to make our temporary
exhibitions look great on a shoestring budget -- it CAN be done! The
typical materials budget for our 5,000 square foot temporary exhibition
space is between $2,000 and $7,000, depending on how many new pedestals must
be built, for example. This includes painting, vinyl for title wall, walls
needed beyond our stock of temporary walls, new casework that may be
required, chat labels, text panels, etc. It does not include the exhibition
design fee, or any contract labor that we might have to hire to assist our
own staff. It's the actual build-out of the exhibition. No, we can't
afford silkscreened labels on a budget like this . . . but we've learned how
to be very inventive . . .
