Museum Friends-
A local resident has a splint egg/gathering basket that was made by a
Flathead women who was from a reservation near Browning, Montana.  She has
asked me to find out if a museum in that region would be interested in
acquiring  the basket for the cost of shipping.

 It was given to the current owner when she was living in Kallispel (sp?) in
the 1950's    The maker/user (her name is unknown) said she it had been hers
for 30 years.

The form is very European, the material possibly ash splints, it has a
square base, vertical walls,  and a bail handle.  An anthropologist and
basket specialist from the Northwest who looked at a photograph of the
basket said  it may have been a reservation school project.


So--if some one from a museum in that region is interested, please let me
know.
