EXHIBITIONS AND COLLECTIONS MANAGER,
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND MUSEUMS.

The University of Richmond seeks an energetic exhibitions and collections
manager to be part of its University Museums, including the Marsh Art
Gallery, the Harnett Print Study Center, and the Lora Robins Gallery of
Design from Nature. The manager must have museum experience in the area of
the visual arts or natural sciences along with an understanding of the fine
arts, natural sciences, decorative arts, and cultural artifacts that
comprise the collections and missions of the museums.
        Responsibilities:  This person will manage the exhibitions,
installations, and collections of the museums and will assist in the
overall operation and programming of the University Museums. Duties include
designing, preparation, installation, and maintenance of temporary and
permanent exhibitions; handling shipping and receiving of objects; bidding
and monitoring exhibit fabrication including text and graphics panels;
technical set-up and participation in special events and programs;
collections care and management; and photographing installations and
maintaining collections photography and database.
        Qualifications: The candidate must have experience in administering
exhibitions and handling museum collections, a knowledge of museum
standards and practices including registration, condition reports, and
cataloguing of objects, and demonstrated skills in exhibition design and
fabrication. Prefer at least four years museum experience in exhibitions
and collections and an advanced degree in art history, studio art, natural
sciences, or museum studies. Ability to move and install objects of all
sizes and media, some heavy lifting, and climbing ladders required. Must
have working knowledge of graphics production and exhibition lighting.
Computer skills necessary, and familiarity with electronic media, CAD, and
website presentation desirable. Must enjoy collaborative approach and
working in a university environment, must have good public communication
skills and strong interpersonal and organization ability.
