DEPARTMENT:   Education                     JOB DESC. DATE:     July 2000

TITLE:   Manager for Family Programs            FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SUPERVISOR:   Director of Education             SCHEDULE: Full-Time


SUMMARY:
The Manager for Family Programs is responsible for all family programs
including performances, holiday programs, festivals, a drop-in activity
center, all Sunday classes and the Children’s Exhibition.  This position
oversees a staff of per diem teachers and consultants and is responsible
for financial and marketing duties relevant to family programs.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Special Programs: Plan, implement, and evaluate Sunday classes for
families, special needs classes, workshops, auditorium programs, weekday
holiday programs, and festivals for children and their adult companions to
appeal to diverse audiences.
Activity Center: Plan hands-on art experiences that focus on Jewish
cultural experience for children and their adult companions.
Sunday morning classes for religious schools: Plan and evaluate, assist
with marketing to expand and maximize enrollment.
Children’s Exhibition: Team leadership for creation and up keep of family
exhibitions.  Coordinate staff and designer, oversee installation, and
develop interpretive materials.
Oversee all publications for children.
Oversee and maintain audio guide for children.
Assist Marketing and Public Relations in all activities to ensure maximum
audience.
Increase family audience for all programs.
Supervise staff (recruit, train, schedule, create contracts, pay, respond
to needs).
Manage Family Programs budget.
Coordinate internal logistics (room assignments, ticketing, payment, etc.).

THER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Special Events Department with planning, implementation, and
evaluation of Children’s Hanukkah party.
Assist in developing grant proposals
Gallery teaching for weekday and Sunday classes as needed.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS (including physical requirements):
MA in Museum Education, Jewish Education or related field.
Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs for
families in formal and informal settings.
Understanding of Museum education methodology.
Understanding of exhibition development.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
