From everything that I have ever heard or read, it is considered highly
unethical (and dangerous from a public relations standpoint) to use funds
from the sale of deaccessioned collections for anything other than the
acquistion or care or collections.  Our policy states clearly that these
funds can only be used for the above stated purposes.  If other museums have
policies that allow using these funds for non-collection purposes and/or
have had positive experiences in this type of matter, I would also be
interested in learning of them.
