For what it is worth, the sale was also poorly reviewed (IMO) by ABC News
at www.abcnews.com

While there seems to be concern, in addition to all the other points that
were
raised the past few weeks, I think these other points also need to be
stressed:

1) For archaeological remains at least, the Federal government is running
out of
storage space and is having cataloging problems. Its hard for them to take
more items into their facilities when they don't have the space and they
don't
get funding from Congress.

2) In the US and parts of Europe, the bottom line is, if you are the land
owner,
what you find on your land is yours to do with as you please. Its only in
the former Communist countries and dictatorships that the government seizes
the
"goodies" off of someone's land. Sure there are some exceptions,
particularly when human remains are found or treasure trove, but that is a
corner stone of
our current economic system.

So instead of whining/complaining about this to a list of people involved in
the
business, think about writing a letter to your local governmental
representative
to increase funding for museums so they can deal with some of these
issues...

Just my 2 yens worth this morning,
Mark Hall
