Why not work w/ the kids in your programs to do something creative? I bet if
you buy plain old shovels and give the kids some paint and arts supplies,
they'll come up w/ really creative, one-of-a-kind approaches to commemorative
shovels. (I'm assuming you already have kids in your programs in your current
building and the groundbreaking is for a new building.)
Or, if you don't have kids in your programs and you have funds, why not
commission an artist to create the commemorative shovels. Again, you'd go the
extra step to be different from any other groundbreaking. (But please, don't
ask the artist to do it for free---after all, the architects, the masons, the
carpenters, the interior designers, etc. aren't working for free either,
right?)
I've always thought that those of us who work in creative/cultural fields
should shy away from ordering things from a catalogue. But, given our
workloads, many times that's the only thing we can do!
Good luck w/ your groundbreaking.
