Subject: converting an apartment into museum storage
I am looking for advice in converting a one-bedroom apartment into artifact
storage. We operate a small historical society in need of improved artifact
storage conditions. Every closet and extra room (including the basement) of
our headquarters is used for storage. We recently received the use of a
vacant one- bedroom apartment to use for artifact storage. Although it is
not air-conditioned, it is a better environment than the basement.
The apartment has one living room (15' x 13'), bedroom (9' x 9'), kitchen,
bathroom, and assorted closets. The water has been shut off to this
apartment and it will never be used for living space again.
This is a great opportunity for us to get some of our artifacts (furniture,
assorted domestic and agricultural items, etc.) into better storage, so I
want to do it "right" the first time. Any advice or problems to keep in
mind about converting domestic space into artifact storage space is
appreciated. I am also looking for a (published, Internet, etc.) source
that covers "how to design, build, and install a storage facility."
Thanks in advance.
Jarrod
