Education Coordinator or Curator of Education

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center seeks an experienced, innovative arts educator for its multifaceted education program related to exhibitions, collections, interactive learning gallery, and performance works.  The education coordinator will work with the education staff as well as other JMKAC staff, artists, volunteers, and interns to plan and implement the docent program, exhibition tours, residencies, lectures, symposia, classes, etc. for schools, universities, artists, other special constituencies, and the public.

JMKAC is an innovative visual and performing arts center focusing on contemporary American art.  Its exhibitions emphasize installation works, craft-related forms, photography, ongoing folk traditions, the work of self-taught artists, and other forms and concepts that seek to expand visitors' ideas about the nature of art.  JMKAC completed an expansion in May, 1999, that tripled its size to 99,000 square feet.  JMKAC is located in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan approximately one hour north of Milwaukee.  Sheboygan was recently named one of the most livable communities in the U.S. by several publications.

A master's degree, extensive knowledge of contemporary American art, a background in art history and studio art, and museum education experience are desired.  In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, and management skills.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
