Replying to Rose Ann Osmanian's inquiry- I looked into this question myself
and found some documentation, which I don't have time to access at the
moment, but the answer is that the risk of light degradation from a scanner
is virtually nil. It might be the equivalent of leaving the photograph in
ordinary room light for a few minutes. If you want more detailed analysis I
can probably locate it for you.
