I know that my friend is in the process of having to present "writing
samples" as part of his job hunt. He has been including catalogue entries,
extended wall labels, and short essays. If you have not published anything
yet, perhaps a very solid graduate school paper, and of course, a flawless
coverletter. One time, the interviewers gave him something to edit that was
along the lines of the project that he was interviewing for, and they paid
him to do it.
Good luck and I look forward to this discussion.
