In her job guide Deb Fuller says:
"Ask for informational interviews. DON'T bring your resume to them.
It's bad form."
Is this really true?
I've always been happy to take a look at an informational
interviewees resume if they've brought it. If nothing else, it is
usually helpful to them to have someone in their specific area of
interest give them a response to/suggestions on their resume and how
to best present their experience. I've occasionally also referred an
informational interviewee to another staffer in my institution when I
realize that he/she has background or experience that makes them a
good candidate for a position someone else is looking to fill.
Why is it bad form to bring a resume to an informational interview?
Is this seen as putting undue pressure on the interviewer or
something?
